March 3, 2010

For Paws Hospice set to introduce its Mobile Animal Shelter M*A*S*H Unit at Mutt Strut Event benefiting The Humane Society, March 20th on Honeymoon Island, near Tampa Bay, FL.

The M*A*S*H concept is familiar to most Americans as the Korean War Mobile Army Surgical Hospital popularized by the long running television series by the same name.

"Although we won't be doing surgery," says Nancy Weikle President of For Paws Hospice, "we will be offering First Aid, and comfort to animals at pet events throughout the Tampa Bay Area."

Aside from minor first aid the mobile system which will be staffed by veterinary techs, volunteers and specialists will offer event attendees advice and general information about animal nutrition and care, safety, emergency survival, and maybe a healthy treat or two along with shade and fresh water for those long hot days in the Florida Sunshine.

The unit will travel to a different events each week throughout the season advising pet people how they may best protect their pets health during  emergencies with free listings of local emergency shelters, demonstrations of Pet CPR, storm evacuation maps and expert advice on subjects such as Animal Ambulance, local pet food banks and healthy pet practices including wholistic medicine, exercise, grooming and sports.

December 16, 2009

The Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive has collected so much food for pets in need in such a short time starting December 1 that we've decided to extend the collection through December 25.

Our partner Marge from Luv All Creatures has been bagging it up and counting the totals which change with each passing day - to date the community has donated nearly 1400 pounds of cat and dog food.

Thanks to all who so generously donated and to the special people and businesses who are giving their time not to me...
