And it rained

Posted by Metro k on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, In : Taxi dog tales

One hundred and fifty people showed up for a home cooked meal and it rained, lightly at first and then harder as twilight became dark.

They were lined up even before the arrival of the vans bringing the food, patiently waiting while a score of volunteers set out the serving line and enough warm food to feed a small army...and it rained

We brought forty meals Monday, one cup servings each in paper lunch bags: twenty cat meals and twenty dog meals.
One of the volunteerrs agreed to set up at the e...

Domestic abuse hurts us all

Posted by Metro k on Thursday, October 1, 2009, In : Child animal bond

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Nationally it is estimated that 1 in 4 women will experience domestic partner abuse in her lifetime.

This is an appalling statistic particularly when you factor in the collateral damage inflicted on children who often are witness to the abuse and worse wind up on the receiving end more often than not. An abuser is as likely to extend his behavior to include his children even household pets in an escalating cycle of violence and abuse all design...

Posted by Taxi dog on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, In : Critter care

For millions of health-conscious Americans, the annual checkup has become a routine practice. Like people, dogs and cats can benefit from routine wellness exams too. But with one important difference – pets age faster than people.

On average, most dogs and cats reach adulthood by age two.  By age four, many pets are entering middle age. And by age seven, most dogs, particularly larger breeds, are entering their senior years
